My PhD fellowship in a leading Danish environmental research institute

I am Quynh Nguyen from Vietnam. I studied Environmental Chemistry at the University of New South Wales, Australia and worked as a technical advisor on improving institutional capacity for water pollution control at Vietnam Environment Protection Agency before joining MESPOM in 2007.

The two-year-journey has been full of great experiences and memories during which I have lived and learnt so much more intensively than ever before. The programme has indeed provided me with in-depth scientific research opportunities (from my 3rd semester and my thesis research in Manchester) in addition to the holistic approach which brings a broader and comprehensive mindset in understanding and handling any specific task in the field.

University world rankings.. looking good!

One of the MESPOM partner universities, the University of Manchester, has climbed up three places and is now ranked number 26 in the table of the world’s top 200 universities (Times Higher Education 2009). In particular, the ranking includes the results of an employer survey of 3,281 major graduate employers, making up 10 per cent of the overall result. In this category, we were one of only six universities in the UK to score a perfect 100. This evidence confirmed how highly rated The University of Manchester is amongst graduate recruiters.

I wanted to share a bit of my proudness with you (OK, you might say I am a bit ego-centric, but hey this doesn't happen every day!).
Science interviewed me and published it on their Careers site. In the interview, I explain my way from science into policy career (I work as an E.U. policy officer on sustainable agriculture at the Greenpeace European Unit in Brussels. (See my other post about this job).

My new job at the Energy Research Institute

I am Huang He, a MESPOMer in 2007-2009, and I come from China. After working in London for a while, I am back to Beijing and start working for the Energy Research Institute (ERI) at the National Development and Reform Committee of China. ERI is the most important Chinese energy institute; it has a big influence on decision-making process, especially in my field (renewable energy policy), where China’s renewable energy law was drafted. Renewable energy, considered as good for both environment and economy, is still quite new in China and the whole industry is full of uncertainties and challenges.

MESPOM is my golden opportunity

I am Begum from Turkey and I am really very excited to meet all of you and start MESPOM 0911. I graduated from Environmental Engineering Department of Middle East Technical University (Turkey) in 2007. During my university years, I held different internships in public and private sector which made me realize how much I want to work on environmental management.

Hi MESPOM!

I am Sarah, originally from San Francisco, USA and I am excited to begin my first year of MESPOM this fall. I graduated University of California (Santa Barbara) in June of this year with dual degrees in Global Studies and Environmental Studies. I have studied abroad several times before, including during my third year of high school which I spent in Spain living with a host family and learning Spanish.

The third batch of MESPOM graduated!

On June 18, 2009, 39 students accepted to MESPOM in 2007 have become masters of science. The formal part of the graduation, arranged as a part of CEU annual commencement ceremony, took place in Vígszínház, an elegant XIX century theatre on the Grand Boulevard of Budapest. After the ceremony, the graduates, their guests and teachers moved to the boat “Attila”, waiting for them just in a few hundred meters, on the waves of the schönen, blauen Donau.
