In the first year of my MESPOM study I took a brilliant course in waste management taught by Prof. Thomas Lindqvist of the IIIEE, Lund University. The course was so interesting that it inspired me to start working in the waste management and resource efficiency area. I am now working for a UK based consultancy called AEA – the main advisor to the UK Government on Climate change and Renewable Energy issues, and the main consultancy involved in the Sakhalin project on behalf of the lending banks. I work mainly in the resource efficiency area, doing research on water and material efficiency for the UK Government, European Commission and local development agencies as well as for private clients. I have recently passed an exam to become an associate member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), and I am now well on my way to becoming a Chartered Environmentalist – a professional qualification highly appreciated in the UK and overseas.

Being a member of the UK Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM), I have recently received one of the CIWM’s professional awards aimed at the waste management and resource efficiency professionals. As well as providing me with a bursary of £1000, the award recognized my professional achievements as a resource efficiency specialist.  I was chosen to attend the Waste & Climate conference in Copenhagen in December 2009 as a CIWM representative. The competition was very fierce, and it made me appreciate my award even more.
