“The MESPOM program was more than a degree to me”

I have been working for Vaisala, Inc in Seattle, WA in their 3TIER renewable energy consulting services business after hearing of the position through my extended alumni network. I am using computer simulations to model meteorological and climatological conditions at prospective wind or solar plants, along with other analyses, to provide developers and financers with the material and data they need to make informed decisions.
The breadth of knowledge and skills that MESPOM provided me has allowed me to quickly adapt to a rapidly changing environment. For example, when the need arose for more GIS related work, I was able to immediately take on those responsibilities as well as train some of my co-workers. In addition, the international nature of the program prepared me well for working at a diverse multinational company, and the travel and collaboration that that entails. On a more personal note, the incredible family that I found while in MESPOM continues to grow to this day, and provides me with invaluable friendship and support, both personally and professionally, no matter where I happen to be in the world.
My future plans and goals involve diving deeper into the renewable energy field, and pulling more of my MESPOM studies into my work – beyond the more scientific nature of resource assessment and expanding into the economic and policy aspects of the energy sector.
The MESPOM program was more than a degree to me. I am still reaping the benefits of that pivotal experience, and the people it brought into my life.
