Sarah Lang '11 (USA)

I am Sarah, originally from San Francisco, USA and I am excited to begin my first year of MESPOM this fall. I graduated University of California (Santa Barbara) in June of this year with dual degrees in Global Studies and Environmental Studies. I have studied abroad several times before, including during my third year of high school which I spent in Spain living with a host family and learning Spanish. During college I enjoyed spending a semester at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, as well as a semester at The Chinese University of Hong Kong where I studied a variety of different subjects including courses in Chinese language. I have always been passionate about studying international affairs and different languages and cultures, so I feel very fortunate to have found a Master’s program that combines all of those aspects with the study of Environmental Science.

Throughout my college years I held a variety of internships doing everything from native plant restoration along the coast of my university’s campus to helping research and writing the 2008 College Sustainability Report Card. This annual report analyzed and graded the sustainability efforts of 300 leading universities across the US and Canada on categories including transportation, green building, recycling, and even where they invest their multi-million dollar endowment funds.

My real interest lies in environmental policy and while at MESPOM I hope to focus on transnational environmental policies and conflict resolution.
