Why MESPOM

The reason I chose MESPOM was the interdisciplinary nature of the program, one that can bridge my different interests in sciences, management and policy. I also chose MESPOM because of the distinguished professors and universities in the consortium. However, the moment I joined MESPOM, I forgot about all of these calculations and the journey I had so far was beyond magical. Not only that I was in an elite group of accomplished students, I was also part of a family whose strong bond will last for many years to come.

I am a pleased to share with you the link to a recent publication on Building Resilience to Climate Change -Ecosystem-based Adaptation and Lessons from Field, recently launched by the IUCN at the CBD COP-10 in Nagoya, Japan (http://data.iucn.org/dbtw-wpd/edocs/2010-050.pdf). The publication documents some of the early lessons that are being learned in adaptation from success stories from the field. This publication contains eleven case studies covering different ecosystems and regions around the world.

Manchester: Britain's greatest university?

This question was posed by the UK newspaper The Independent in early October as Manchester University, the distinguished MESPOM partner, now has more working Nobel Laureates than any British university. Two Russian-born professors Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov have won this year’s Nobel Prize for physics.

My Thesis: a Great Opportunity!

I am a recent (2009) MESPOM graduate and I am grateful for the opportunity I was given through my thesis work to prepare the ground for getting my dream job! It all started in March 2009, when I’ve put up a project plan for my research with my advisor Dr. Brandon Anthony from CEU. My topic was about “Improving the effectiveness of protected areas management in Lebanon”, and I was already eager to come back home and apply my knowledge acquired through 2 years of intensive environmental studies in MESPOM.
